Turkey’s oil and natural gas production hit a record high in October, marking a significant milestone for the nation’s energy sector. The Energy and Natural Resources Ministry made the announcement, showcasing the country’s increasing capabilities in the field.
According to the ministry, Turkey produced 234.4 million cubic meters of natural gas in October, setting a new monthly record. In addition, domestic crude oil production reached 3.36 million barrels, marking an all-time high for the country in a single month.
The daily average production for October was 7.56 million cubic meters of natural gas and 108,443 barrels of crude oil. The ministry provided further insights into the data with an infographic highlighting specific dates where production peaked. The largest oil production of the month occurred on October 29, reaching 111,280 barrels, while natural gas production peaked on October 23 at 7.9 million cubic meters.
These impressive numbers are a result of Turkey’s relentless efforts in oil and gas exploration in recent years. The discovery of a significant gas field on the Black Sea coast and new deposits in the Gabar region have contributed to the country’s increased production levels.
The Sakarya Gas Field played a crucial role in last month’s natural gas production, accounting for 84% of the total gas output. On the other hand, oil production in the Gabar region made up 46.6% of the nation’s total oil production. Production at the Sakarya Gas Field reached 6.66 million cubic meters on October 23, while Gabar saw a peak production of 52,573 barrels on October 29.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar expressed his commitment to further developing Turkey’s oil and gas resources, with a focus on achieving energy independence by 2024. He emphasized the importance of investing in new fields, conducting explorations, and utilizing new drilling technologies to meet the nation’s growing energy demands.
Bayraktar also highlighted Turkey’s efforts in international exploration, citing the example of the Oruç Reis, a research ship conducting seismic activities in Somalia. The vessel aims to identify potential natural gas and oil reserves in the region, with the mission expected to last seven months.
During a welcoming ceremony at the Port of Mogadishu, Bayraktar announced a new onshore hydrocarbon exploration agreement between the Somali Petroleum Authority and the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO). This partnership signifies Turkey’s dedication to expanding its energy portfolio and establishing strategic alliances with other nations.
In conclusion, Turkey’s remarkable achievements in oil and natural gas production demonstrate the country’s growing influence in the global energy market. With a clear vision for enhancing domestic resources and exploring new opportunities abroad, Turkey is on track to becoming a leading player in the energy sector. As the nation continues to prioritize energy development and innovation, it is poised for even greater success in the years to come.
